Cotton Candy Affogato

Fluffy, puffy and cloudy — the cotton candy affogato is a drink straight from your childhood dreams, with avid foodies flocking to cafes to get their perfect Instagram snapshot of this drink. Unlike your usual coffee with milk, the affogato is a dessert made with vanilla ice cream and espresso. Initially invented in Italy, the word “affogato” translates to “drowned” in English — an apt description of a scoop of ice cream “drowned” in espresso.

Cotton candy affogato is essentially a giant scoop of ice cream in a cup topped with pastel-coloured cotton candy and served with a small shot of espresso on the side. Pour the espresso shot all over the cotton candy in a circular motion and watch it magically melt into your ice cream. Watch it morph into a sweet toffee that infuses the ice cream below for a beautiful symphony of sweet and creamy textures, a hot and cold sensation in your mouth. Some cafes went the extra mile and decorated the cotton candy into various cutesy animal shapes, like a panda or a teddy bear, for your viewing pleasure!

Pumpkin Spiced Latte

Sugar, spice and everything nice — the pumpkin spice latte is the beverage embodiment of it. Launched as a seasonal drink by a multinational coffee chain in 2003, this drink usually marks the beginning of autumn. Besides falling leaves, the crackling sound of fireplaces and knitted wear, the pumpkin spice is a popular beverage synonymous with the season. The drink is made with a mix of traditional autumn spice flavours like cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, steamed milk and espresso, topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice.

The drink was developed by researchers munching on pumpkin pies and sipping espresso, figuring out which elements of the baked goods complement the coffee well. Pumpkin and spice emerged as the winning components, and researchers worked around the intensity of these ingredients. The use of pumpkin sauce helped replicate the mouthfeel of pumpkin pie, evoking a warm fuzzy feeling we have about autumn.

Caramel Macchiato

Think cloud-like milk foam and mellow coffee layers in a glass — the macchiato is a coffee beverage with a distinctive appearance. The Italian term “macchiato” is translated as “stained”, a hint of milk gives the drink a pleasing stained appearance.

Debuted in 1996, the Caramel Macchiato has been a café favourite for over two decades. It is a latte-style beverage served hot or iced made with milk, vanilla syrup, and topped with sweet caramel sauce in a crosshatch or zig-zag design. The critical component to making an excellent caramel macchiato is the caramel sauce — only silky, velvety caramel sauce can be used for the beverage to stay on top of the milk foam! The drink is a mix of smooth vanilla, velvety caramel flavours and the perfect amount of sweetness.
